I’ve gotten more ‘I don’t get it’ and ‘This is my favourite book’ messages for this one than for any other! Polarizing, as befits the book titled Halfmoon. I’m really happy with it. A big juicy thank you to everybody on Patreon and my site supporting me throughout its creation! It’s a fact that this comic would not exist without you.
I will be doing a print run at some point but don’t have a timeframe for you yet. Crowdfunding campaigns are fun and lucrative but book production is a type of work I don’t particularly enjoy and the whole process takes over my life for months. The time difference killed me on the last one! I live in Germany now and everyone involved is in North America, so I’d be winding down my day and the production emails would start rolling in at like 10PM. Between that and the delays (more on that below) I got pretty worn out. Happily I won’t have to worry about that for the next print thing because…
ADULT HIGH SCHOOL
Adult High School has a publisher! If civilization has not imploded by then, expect a print campaign in 2027. If everything goes well, I’ll be placing IRO with this publisher too, but it’s too soon to say. Extremely excited about this. It’s gonna be sick! Details by the end of the year!
The next book of AHS will start up early next year. Been feeling I need to go back to Japan and get a bunch of reference material and generally absorb the vibes before I can get properly started on it, so I’m gonna do that. Lots of writing to do in the meantime, so, while I won’t have much to show for a few months, the work continues.
ZOOP CAMPAIGN
Incredibly, some people are still waiting on their books. I can explain a little. Zoop uses (or, used) a fulfillment company called Flying Cloud. Until recently it was a normal distribution center and warehouse used by lots of companies in the publishing industry. Apparently, they had huge ‘staff problems’ this summer and have not recovered.
So fulfillment has been taking ten times as long as it should have, and on top of that they’ve now supposedly ‘lost’ some of the books. It’s a very weird and bad situation over there and Zoop is still getting to the bottom of it. I was talking to someone from Boom Studios this week and apparently they and other companies are having identical issues with Flying Cloud; it sounds like this place is just falling apart. Whatever their reason, these delays are unacceptable. Given my previous Kickstarters I think I can say that if I was doing the fulfillment by myself, this would have been wrapped up with a bow on it months ago, so it’s completely ridiculous for a full-on distribution center to fail this badly. I’m sorry.
(If you’ll allow me an unprofessional conjecture, this sure looks like a company that fired everyone for AI and immediately broke in half. But I don’t know. Could be anything. Companies were mismanaged to death before AI too.)
Anyway, I’ll clarify that none of the delays in this campaign have been on Zoop’s side. The first delays earlier this year were due to the printer, and these latest ones are due to Flying Cloud. My experience with Zoop has been steady and professional throughout. It sounds like their communication could be improved customer-side, though, and I’ve told them as much.

They’ve been slow in some of their replies because they’re waiting on answers from this stupid dying company and clarity on this weird situation to be able to give people concrete solutions.
